May 2008

6th May – Today we had a visit from Highland’s waste aware team. Imogen talked to us about the 3R’s and the consequences they were having on the environment. We were all really surprised at how much waste was being produce by us every year in Scotland. It was very sad to hear that lots of animals and plants are suffering because of all our rubbish.  We then played a giant board game that tested our knowledge on the 3R’s and also got to see lots of products made from recycled materials – even a placemat made from an old circuit board!

Our topic this term is ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’. We have been involved in lots of fun activities to help us understand the environmental impact of human activity on the environment.

One of our homework tasks was to explore alternative, eco-friendly transport. Here are some pictures of our fantastic research!

We have also calculated our carbon footprints and we decided to display them outside our classroom for others to see. Some of us were very shocked at our results and so we created posters to be displayed around the school and class which will hopefull help children and staff with top tips for reducing their own footprints!
